So...here's how much sleep Peter and I have had in the last three days cumulatively....total....combined:
42 minutes.
Walking corpses. That's what we are. And we haven't even had the baby yet. We had fan issues the night before last. And the night before that. Peter, before getting married to me used a fan every night to help him sleep (white noise, you know). I balked at this because I have never used a "tool" to get me to fall asleep, as I've always heard things like that can become addicting.
Have to have your IPOD playing in your ear as you drift off to sleep? Missing IPOD = Sleepless nights
Like the TV on to lull you to sleep with the sweet sounds of the late night infomercial? Marrying a woman who doesn't allow a TV in the bedroom = You are a bedraggled mess.
Used to using a fan to fall asleep by? Broken fan = You are utterly screwed.
You see, I acquiesced! I did. I let the fan into our bedroom and now........I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEED it. I yearn for its soft whir and the way the room feels cooler and less stuffy. I long for its commitment to me to block out the noises from the neighbors and cars with loud mufflers and Pete's strange sleep noises.
So, I went out and bought a new fan yesterday...and we slept with it last night. And things were better in the world. Except for Peter. Fan or no fan, he hasn't slept in weeks. Please pray for him to find rest and peace. I am beside myself as to what to do to help him. We pray together about it, we've tried going to bed earlier, going to bed later, being more stimulated before bed (Movies, video games, reading) and being less stimulated (Massage, pray, lights out). We've tried every sleep aid under the sun and most leave him feeling worse for the entire rest of the following day. Perhaps he's preemptively empathising with my soon-to-be sleep deprived state upon the arrival of Baby Smith. Perhaps it is Couvade.
The countdown begins: 39 days until our due date!
